The High Performance Institute (HPI), situated in the San Francisco Bay Area, is a distinguished tennis academy owned and operated by none other than Yvonne Gallop, a former world-class tennis player who has graced the courts as both an instructor and a coach at the IMG / Chris Evert Tennis Academy. HPI prides itself on offering unparalleled tennis lessons and classes, with a primary focus on the fundamental tenets of tennis strokes, movement, balance, and match play. The esteemed HPI headquarters are located in the city of San Mateo, CA.

Now Accepting Applications for the 2024-2025 Academy Year
We are currently accepting applications for HPI's 2024-2025 Academy Year.
In order for your child to be considered for placement in our program, you must complete the following process:
Step 1: Submit the "Annual Application for HPI" below.
Step 2: Schedule a 15-minute CONSULTATION- COURT ASSESSMENT with Coach Yvonne to determine which level is the right fit for your child.
Students aged 12 and older must have a verified UTR (Universal Tennis Rating) to enroll in our programs. We no longer accept new students in this age group without a UTR rating.

Our Coaches
Head Coach Yvonne Gallop
Coach Yvonne is a former world-class tennis player with 40+ years of teaching, coaching and competitive experience. She is certified by the USPTA, the USPTR as well as the WTA. Her philosophy is that there is more to life than just hitting a tennis ball. She includes character building, sportsmanship, integrity, work ethic, discipline and team building to the program. She also teaches the kids to motivate, inspire and mentor each other. Coach Yvonne graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice with her discipline in youth. She also holds a minor in Political Science.
Coach Jeff Kawahara
Born and raised in Half Moon Bay, Coach Jeff brings enthusiasm and passion to the tennis. He has currently worked for High Performance Tennis Academy for five years and has enjoyed great success with players of all ages. He is certified with PTR (Professional Tennis Registry) specifically on 10 and under tennis. When he is not on the tennis courts he enjoys bowling, hanging out with friends and going to In N Out!
Coach Fred
Coach Fred is a Bay Area native and passionate tennis player. He is certified with PTR (Professional Tennis Registry) Level 1 / 2 (pending) and GRSA (Global Racket Stringers Association) Certified Pro Stringer. He is active in USTA Adult League and regularly participate in Norcal Sectional events. Prior to joining HPI, he worked in the advertising and media industry for over 20 years. Coach Fred graduated from San Jose State University with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration.
Coach Brandon Leung
Meet Coach Brandon, a passionate tennis player who first joined the HPI tennis program in seventh grade. During his time at Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory, Brandon played four years of varsity singles tennis, earning numerous school and league awards along the way. Brandon competed in USTA junior and adult tournaments and was recruited by division 2 and division 3 schools before choosing to attend UC Davis.

Summer at Evert Tennis Academy
Coach Yvonne and her HPI team have been taking their students to the Evert Tennis Academy every summer for the past 10 years. These trips have proven to be highly beneficial for the students, as they get the opportunity to learn from some of the world's top coaches and players, as well as hone their skills on some of the best courts in the world. The HPI Tennis Academy is proud to have a partnership with the Evert Tennis Academy and looks forward to continuing to send their students to this world-class facility in the future.
